About the Job: Residential and Commercial Building Code Specialist

The City of Burnet, Texas is seeking a highly skilled Residential and Commercial Building Code Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and other city ordinances related to residential and commercial construction projects. As a key member of our community development team, you will work closely with builders, developers, and the public to provide information and guidance on code requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect buildings and structures to ensure compliance with adopted building codes, zoning ordinances, and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Issue permits, notices of violation, and stop work orders as required by law or regulation.
  • Provide education and outreach to the public, builders, and developers on code requirements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to resolve code-related issues and improve community development outcomes.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field such as building science, architecture, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction code enforcement, building inspection, or a related field.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain certification as a building inspector.

Benefits: The City of Burnet, Texas offers a competitive salary range of $70,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
