About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Genetic Technologist I to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a key member of our Institute for Genomic Medicine, you will play a critical role in performing routine and complex laboratory analyses, quality control, operational improvement, and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex technical laboratory procedures, ensuring proper equipment use, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Draft patient reports by interpreting assay results and record laboratory processes and data, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Conduct Quality Control testing of newly received reagents, chemicals, and kits used for patient testing.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and complete all quality training.
  • Review the status of clinical and research cases with appropriate leaders.
  • Identify and communicate problems, errors, and deviations in lab processes.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, following applicable laws and regulations and assisting with ongoing safety audits.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science, required.
  • Certifications: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certified or eligible for certification as a Technologist by an approved agency.
  • MLS(ASCP), MB(ASCP), or CG(ASCP), required.
  • Certification exam must be passed within 3 years of hire date.
  • Completes minimum of 12 hours Continuing Education annually.
  • Skills: Organizational skills and attention to detail, technical and computer skills needed for high-complexity analysis, effective oral or written communication, ability to adapt communication styles for cultural differences, ability to maintain and foster interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers, ability to work efficiently both independently and in a team, flexibility with interruptions and changing circumstances.
