Matchpointe Group, Inc is in search of a Cybersecurity Analyst who possesses a solid understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, methodologies, and tools. This role is integral to supporting our client, the City of Santa Ana, within the Information Technology Department, reporting directly to the Information Security Officer. Please note that this position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

This role is designed for a mid-level analyst, focusing initially on the hands-on management of the City’s cybersecurity infrastructure and processes. The position will evolve into responsibilities involving the acquisition of cybersecurity tools and the formulation and execution of cybersecurity policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures, paving the way for advancement into a Cybersecurity Officer role.

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and dedicated cybersecurity analyst with sufficient experience to take on significant responsibilities from the outset, aiming to cultivate a robust career in cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities

Phase 1

  1. Utilize security toolsets to monitor and identify suspicious and malicious activities as well as security vulnerabilities across the network.
  2. Conduct tuning of event detection and response systems to enhance reporting and alerting capabilities.
  3. Engage in active threat hunting to respond to security incidents and initiate remediation actions.
  4. Assist in the planning of incident response strategies and investigate cybersecurity events.
  5. Prepare management reports detailing incidents and false positives.
  6. Review security information and event management logs, providing insights and recommendations to leadership.

Phase 2

  1. Support the planning and implementation of cybersecurity measures to safeguard networks, servers, applications, and systems.
  2. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  3. Facilitate both internal and external penetration testing activities.
  4. Contribute to the development and implementation of information security policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  5. Review designs of major applications and upgrades for compliance with security policies, conducting routine audits and recommending enhancements.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. A minimum of 2 years of experience in enterprise cybersecurity environments.
  2. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  3. Possession of at least one of the following certifications:
    1. Global Information Assurance Certification Security Essentials (GSEC);
    2. CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) or Security+;
    3. Cisco Security Certification CCNA, or CCNA Cyber Ops;
    4. Other industry-recognized certifications.
  4. Familiarity with common protocols such as DHCP, LDAP, SNMP, SMTP, HTTP, and SSL.
  5. A strong grasp of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and tools.

Preferred Skills

  1. Experience with Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM) systems.
  2. Knowledge of Intrusion Detection Systems and alerting platforms.
  3. Understanding of enterprise networking technologies.
  4. Experience with anomaly detection and behavioral analytics.
  5. Prior collaboration with a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) vendor is advantageous, though not mandatory if other qualifications are met.
