POSITION OVERVIEW
This role is pivotal in managing the daily functions of the grounds department, encompassing a variety of tasks such as landscape upkeep, fence repairs, maintenance of small engines, field marking, site services, and tree care. The supervisor will also be tasked with organizing and executing departmental procedures and scheduling mowing operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees district grounds staff through appointed lead roles.
- Communicates with school administrators regarding schedule adjustments, campus issues, and job follow-ups.
- Establishes maintenance standards for all campuses and support facilities.
- Handles Human Resources responsibilities including recruitment, candidate screening, and interviewing. Approves new hires, recommends terminations, and manages attendance and performance evaluations.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides feedback on concerns raised by administrators, supervisors, and staff.
- Recommends purchases of necessary equipment and supplies while maintaining an inventory.
- Performs other comparable duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Some college education is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
SKILLS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office, and operation of office equipment (e.g., computers, copiers). Familiarity with hand tools (e.g., hammers, shovels, screwdrivers) and power tools (e.g., saws, drills, pneumatic hammers). Valid driver's license for operating vehicles such as trucks and forklifts. Management training is also required.
LEADERSHIP ROLE
This position directly manages two or more employees within a single department, overseeing significant functional areas. Responsibilities include resource allocation based on priorities and serving as the primary decision-maker for hiring, performance evaluations, and budget recommendations.
WORK COMPLEXITY AND JUDGMENT
The role involves complex and varied tasks that require the application of technical guidelines. Independent judgment is essential for selecting and applying appropriate methods and interpreting precedents. The supervisor will regularly make recommendations to management on significant departmental matters.
DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
Decisions made in this role allow for considerable discretion, including recommendations that may impact multiple departments.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
This position is expected to propose innovative solutions to challenges, enhance existing methods and services, and contribute new ideas. The supervisor may also review decisions made by others on routine matters.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERACTIONS
Engages in collaborative problem-solving, working with others to clarify complex information and policies. Interactions typically involve customers, senior professional staff, and management.
CUSTOMER SERVICE RELATIONSHIPS
