Job Summary:

VITAS Healthcare is seeking a skilled LPN/LVN to join our team as a part-time nursing professional. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to terminally ill patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer nursing care according to the plan of care to terminally ill patients in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state where the VITAS program is located.
  • Provide direct skilled bedside nursing care, including evaluating patient/family needs and assisting in the preparation and execution of the interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Perform selected acts in the care of the terminally ill under the supervision of a registered nurse, including documenting reports in clinical notes.
  • Evaluate patient/family response to care and utilize a wide variety of supportive and technical nursing skills in carrying out specific medical orders.
  • Assist the interdisciplinary team in designing and delivering the interdisciplinary plan of care, establishing therapeutic relationships with patients/families, and initiating and performing nursing protocols based on patient needs.
  • Participate in patient/family teaching during daily care, including understanding the illness and its treatment, maintaining activities of daily living, self-care, and self-medication.
  • Plan and carry out a program of professional growth, including participating in regularly scheduled in-service programs and community educational offerings.
  • Participate in Nurse LPN/LVN on-call rotation/schedule as assigned to meet the needs of patients and families.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved school of Practical/Vocational nursing.
  • Currently licensed to practice nursing in the state where the VITAS program is located.
  • At least one year of satisfactory nursing experience, at least one year of which is an LPN/LVN in a hospital on an adult medical surgical unit.
