Position Overview:


The Automotive Fleet Technician II is accountable for executing a range of maintenance and repair tasks within a workshop or on-site as directed by a Fleet Mechanic I or Automotive Supervisor.

This role involves work of moderate complexity on automotive and transit fleet vehicles, as well as specialized vehicles and equipment powered by gasoline, diesel, or propane, with varying levels of supervision based on the technician's skills and expertise.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Vehicle Repair: Under general supervision, carry out and/or assist with significant mechanical repairs, including transmission and engine overhauls on fleet vehicles and equipment. Conduct comprehensive brake services on cars and medium-duty trucks. Perform minor mechanical repairs on small engines and equipment, such as water pumps, fuel pumps, and alternators.
  2. Scheduled Maintenance: Repair, mount, balance, and install tires. Execute Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs. Clean vehicles. Transport vehicles and parts as needed.
  3. Additional Projects: Maintain a clean and safe working environment through shop housekeeping duties. Install and remove auxiliary equipment, such as police radios, in university police vehicles. Perform welding repairs and fabricate small metal projects.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
An associate degree or a vocational/technical school degree in Automotive Technology.

Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing:

Special Instructions to Applicants:
Rotation 24/7 on call every 6 weeks for a 2-week period.
