Pediatric Support Specialist

Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of a minimum of 480 hours in a Child Life Internship - must be finalized prior to the interview process.
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related discipline.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.

About the Role:

The Pediatric Support Specialist plays a crucial role in creating and maintaining a nurturing, therapeutic, and educational environment for children in an outpatient clinical setting.

Schedule:

This is a full-time role, operating Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offers psychosocial and emotional support to children and their families during outpatient visits.
  • Designs and sustains a therapeutic and educational environment that fosters a child-friendly atmosphere.
  • Contributes expertise in child development and psychosocial needs to the healthcare team.
  • Modifies interactions and treatments to align with each child's developmental and educational requirements, alleviating stress and anxiety related to healthcare.
  • Advocates for the unique needs of children and their families, promoting a philosophy centered on patient and family care.
  • Coordinates volunteer efforts.
  • Organizes and oversees special events and guest appearances.
  • Ensures confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations in accordance with federal guidelines.
  • Maintains adherence to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to adapt language and demeanor to suit the developmental and emotional state of children.
  • A passion for working with children and their families.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to safely and effectively execute essential job functions in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other relevant standards.

Employee Health Compliance:

As a condition of employment, adherence to Employee Health standards is required. All employees must provide proof of Tuberculosis clearance and Influenza vaccination, or approved declinations. Specific roles may necessitate proof of immunization or antibodies for Hepatitis B, MMR, TDAP, and Varicella, depending on job responsibilities.
