Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals, including heating lunch, preparing vegetables, and cutting fruit.
  • Portion and deliver all lunch components to classrooms, ensuring timely service.
  • Prepare, portion, and package all snack items, including grab-and-go options.
  • Address special dietary needs by preparing meals for children with allergies, vegetarians, and other specific requirements.
  • Maintain safe food storage practices, including daily temperature logs for food and sanitizing solutions.
  • Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory management to ensure freshness.
  • Adhere to all health and hygiene regulations in accordance with food safety legislation.
  • Perform proper washing and sanitizing of dishware collected from classrooms.
  • Support kitchen operations through scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of all kitchen equipment and surfaces.
  • Prepare food for field trips, school-age programs, and community events as needed.
  • Adapt to changing duties and responsibilities based on the needs of the daycare centers.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a kitchen assistant role.
  • Preferred completion of college or university coursework in a culinary-related field.
  • Current Food Handler Certification is required.
  • Experience in a daycare or long-term care setting is an asset.
  • Proven experience in a high-volume kitchen environment.
