Morgan County Schools is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Instructional Assistant to join our team. As an Instructional Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of our students with exceptionalities.
Key Responsibilities- Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students with exceptionalities.
- Monitor and report student progress, maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with teachers and parents.
- Participate as a member of an instructional team, including remediation teams, to support student learning and achievement.
- Prepare and organize lessons as directed by the teacher, administering and scoring tests according to established guidelines.
- Assist in determining the English proficiency of identified students and provide support to ensure their academic success.
- Perform routine clerical duties, such as preparing instructional and classroom materials, operating copy machines, and maintaining attendance records.
- Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.
- Assist in overseeing students while in labs, providing for supplies inventory as necessary, and ensuring the health and safety of students.
- Direct group activities of students as assigned, assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities, and participate in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned to enhance professional growth and development.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred.
- One year of experience working with students with exceptionalities or in a related field.
- Ability to learn and apply child guidance principles and practices, communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the public, and perform routine clerical duties in support of classroom activities.
- Knowledge of basic subjects taught in the District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading, as well as safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
The Instructional Assistant will work in a fast-paced educational environment, interacting with students, teachers, and staff on a regular basis. The ability to work effectively in a team setting, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing circumstances is essential.
