Job Title: Gas Engineer

As a Gas Engineer, you'll play a vital role in designing and implementing construction projects for our natural gas facilities. Your expertise will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our pipeline systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and estimate construction projects for gas main and service work.
  • Coordinate designs with GIS Analysts, Environmental Engineering, System Planning, Right of Way, Pipeline Safety and Compliance, Field Operations, and outside companies.
  • Record and track improvement plans from preliminary to final stage through construction.
  • Assist in daily coordination, assignment of work, and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers.
  • Work on special projects, including bridge crossings, railroad crossings, and design non-normal services.
  • Specify and procure non-stock material required for main and service work.
  • Review design and cost estimates for main and service work, delivery pressures, and justify proposed main work.
  • Handle calls and correspondence regarding job status and projects.
  • Prepare necessary paperwork for gas main and service work procedures.
  • Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with engineering firms and municipalities.
  • Attend site meetings to resolve issues or conflicts with facilities and proposed improvements.
  • Schedule and prioritize projects for construction or higher priority due to company requirements.
  • Ensure effective utilization of GIS and asset management systems for capital construction design work.
  • Ensure use of company standards and applicable State and Federal codes and regulations for design work.
  • Ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective work to maximize system integrity, reliability, and value to customers.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited school required.
  • Engineering in Training certificate preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Minimum 0-2 years' engineering experience in natural gas or similar industries.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and ability to lead across functional teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to deal with internal peers, staff, and third-party service providers.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Spire's systems.
Work Environment:

Work is normally performed in a shared, open-office environment. Hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Work hours are typically 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Additional 20 hours may be required per month to complete necessary work. Overnight travel is required to visit work locations and attend business functions. Up to 20% travel required.
