Position Details

This is a full-time, on-site position for a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Counselor. The successful candidate will be tasked with performing assessments, delivering individual and group therapy sessions, and managing cases. Additionally, they will engage with families to offer therapeutic support and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to create and execute thorough treatment plans for clients.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Counselor/Therapist include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting client assessments using SFRC's biopsychosocial assessment (BPS) and other evaluation tools to determine the ASAM criteria.
  • Providing individual and group therapy based on evidence-based practices in substance use disorder treatment, psycho-education, cognitive/behavioral methods, motivational interviewing, and other holistic therapeutic approaches.
  • Coordinating with the Case Manager to facilitate referrals to external agencies for services not offered by SFRC.
  • Participating in initial and ongoing training on evidence-based practices utilized in client service delivery while maintaining fidelity to these practices.
Qualifications

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Strong background in Social Work, Psychology, and Mental Health.
  2. Experience in Case Management, Family Therapy, or related fields.
  3. Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic modalities for substance use and mental health disorders.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  5. Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  6. Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in New Mexico as a clinical therapist.
  7. Experience with co-occurring disorders is advantageous.
  8. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related discipline.
  9. Also accepting LSAA and LADAC licenses.

Education and Experience:

  1. Current New Mexico License as a Mental Health Counselor or Therapist (Independent License Preferred) - LMCH, LMSW, LPCC, LCSW, LAMFT.
  2. Preferred minimum of two years of experience working with clients with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse diagnoses, providing individual and group psychotherapy.
  3. Proficiency in computer use to ensure compliance with BHSD standards and requirements for computerized client assessments and data systems.
  4. Must possess a valid NM Driver's License and maintain a clean driving record and auto insurance.
  5. Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural candidates preferred (English/Spanish).
