Optometrist Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Optometrist Assistant to join our team at Kaiser Permanente in Portland, Oregon.
About the RoleThis is a full-time position that involves working as an assistant to optometrists in a fast-paced medical office environment. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team.
Job SummaryThe primary responsibilities of this role include:
- Assisting optometrists with patient care and administrative tasks
- Recording patient medical and visual history, reviewing and preparing clinical information for doctors
- Taking and recording patient vitals when indicated in EMR
- Performing pre-testing, including assessing gross visual skills, extraocular muscle action, and pupillary reflexes
- Maintaining accurate records and reports as instructed by the doctor
- Instilling eye-drops when ordered by the doctor
- Assisting in therapeutic procedures such as foreign body removal
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- At least one year of back-office clinical experience directly supporting a medical provider or completion of an accredited clinical assistant program
- A High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
- A Paraoptometric Technician Certificate within 24 months of hire from American Optometric Association or equivalent certification
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to function effectively in a professional environment within a managed practice organization
Two years of previous experience in optometric or other ophthalmic practice would be advantageous. Additionally, a basic knowledge of Kaiser Permanente policies, procedures, and philosophy, as well as familiarity with optometric instruments and equipment, would be beneficial.

BenefitsWe offer a competitive salary range of $48,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience, as well as comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement savings plans, and paid time off. The estimated annual salary for this role is $52,500.
