Carpentry Specialist

White Plains Hospital is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our team. As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for constructing and maintaining structural components, ceilings, doors, woodwork, furniture, equipment, fixtures, and all their necessary parts. You will work independently with minimal supervision, using standard carpentry hand and power tools to cut and fashion parts for furniture, countertops, cabinets, and other wooden or structural assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct and maintain structural components, ceilings, doors, woodwork, furniture, equipment, fixtures, and all their necessary parts.
- Use standard carpentry hand and power tools to cut and fashion parts for furniture, countertops, cabinets, and other wooden or structural assemblies.
- Perform activities such as measuring, sawing, squaring, sanding, nailing, etc. to effect construction or repair of furniture, partitions, doors, windows, floors, walls, ceilings, building framework, and any other components deemed necessary.
- Repair and inspect locks and other door devices and hardware and maintain fire door equipment.
- Build special equipment with materials such as Corian, Formica, etc.
- Calculate the type and quantity of materials needed and requisition lumber, ceiling materials, and other supplies necessary.
- Maintain hospital key systems, including repairs and replacements of cylinder locks, cut keys, and pins cores.
- Coordinate and manage service calls with vendors.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Assist in snow removal as needed.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 years of carpentry experience.
- High degree of mechanical expertise.
- Associated Locksmiths of America Certification.
- Valid, clean driver's license.

- Must be physically capable of performing necessary job duties and be able to visually and audibly determine any discrepancies in equipment.
- Must have physical dexterity, coordination, and stamina to perform inspections, which involves ascending/descending ladders, using, and operating tools and machinery to perform job duties.
- Must be able to transport heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to constantly position self in order to perform job duties over an extended period of time.
- Must be able to perform snow/ice removal and work in all outdoor weather conditions.
- Must be able to perform job duties when exposed to a high level of noise.
- Able to work from sketches and blueprints.
- Able to respond to written and verbal instructions.
- Able to concentrate for extended periods of time.
- Able to work well with department staff and other hospital staff.
- Able to maintain a calm disposition and work well under stress.
- Able to communicate effectively with all hospital departments and personnel.
- Have visual perception needed to comprehend color-coded wiring systems.
- Able to communicate via telephone, fax machine, computer, internet, etc.
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
