HIL Systems Engineering Team Leader

We are looking for a skilled engineer or scientist to oversee the design and implementation of sophisticated hardware in the loop (HWIL or HIL) systems for testing critical weapon systems essential to national defense. If you possess experience with hardware in the loop systems and have a strong desire to lead a team of talented engineers, this role may be an excellent match for you. You will be part of a team that develops, constructs, and operates hardware in the loop systems surrounding weapon systems' flight computers and sensors, including GPS receivers and IMUs.

Key Responsibilities as a Hardware in the Loop Engineer:

  • Lead a dedicated team of engineers in the design, construction, and operation of hardware in the loop configurations for unique weapon systems.
  • Guide team members on HWIL design principles, delegating tasks appropriately based on individual skill levels.
  • Communicate project status and outcomes to stakeholders, including project managers and external sponsors.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware developers, ensuring a thorough understanding of latency, thread safety, and data management across hardware interfaces.
  • Engage with embedded hardware systems and sensors, comprehending electrical interfaces and communication protocols.
  • Document code, establish CI/CD processes, integrate network systems, and maintain clear communication with the team regarding project status and requirements.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, you should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Over 6 years of experience with hardware in the loop testing environments.
  • Proficiency in software programming and a solid understanding of electrical signals and embedded system communications.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers (2-6 or more) in the development of Hardware in the Loop test environments.
  • The ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date, with the potential to achieve a Secret level clearance. Eligibility requires U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in designing and establishing hardware in the loop test environments.
  • Experience with high fidelity (6-dof) software simulations for aerial platforms (missiles, aircraft, projectiles).
  • Familiarity with weapon systems such as missiles, hypersonics, seekers, and naval platforms.
  • Knowledge of technologies including CUDA, FPGA, GIT, compilers, software-defined radio (SDR), RFSoC, networking protocols, object-oriented programming, Python, MatLab, and Simulink.
  • A strong willingness to learn new skills through documentation, training, and hands-on experimentation.
