Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team at the City of Chesapeake. This role is responsible for processing benefit enrollments, maintaining city benefit deductions, and reviewing payroll transactions for accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process benefit enrollments and maintain city benefit deductions
  • Review payroll transactions for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
  • Administer and process all benefit enrollments in the Munis system
  • Coordinate COBRA insurance coverage and process invoices
  • Balance and reconcile monthly benefit bills
  • Communicate effectively with employees and vendors regarding benefit-related issues
  • Work closely with benefit providers to resolve eligibility and vendor invoicing issues
  • Assist with testing and validating new payroll system enhancements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of related experience
  • Strong accounting and Excel spreadsheet skills
  • Knowledge of payroll principles and federal, state, and City laws and regulations
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
