Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 to join our team as a Highway Maintenance Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for operating equipment necessary to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges, and structures. You will also assist with emergency cleanup and traffic control after crashes, storms, spills, and other incidents.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply, maintain, and/or replace roadway/highway striping and/or legends.
  • Remove existing paint, epoxy, thermoplastics, 3-M tapes, and Dura Stripe using sand blasting or grinding equipment.
  • Perform surface repair, including hand, pothole, and concrete patching, and small inlay work.
  • Operate heavy trucks, rollers, blades, and motor graders to patch large sections of highway, remove slides, and build or repair roadway shoulders and bike paths.
  • Perform snow removal and clean-up, sanding, and snow plowing.
  • Patrol and monitor assigned roadway/highway sections for hazardous driving conditions, including frost, ice, snow, rockslides, sinkholes, and other traffic impediments.
  • Pick up and dispose of debris, dead animals, and litter found on the roadway and adjacent right-of-way.
  • Respond to weather-related emergencies by assessing the need for and performing snow removal, de-icing, or sanding to keep roadways, highways, and bridges open for the traveling public.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you must have one year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work or two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.

Preferred Qualifications:

We prefer candidates with a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions, and no manual transmission restrictions. You must also have the ability to work in hazardous conditions and lift up to 60 pounds.
