Overview:

This role is responsible for executing both standard and advanced laboratory techniques, which encompass specimen management, analysis of patient samples, result computation and documentation, quality assurance activities, equipment operation and upkeep, and contributing to the formulation of innovative procedures and guidelines. Additionally, this position may involve performing phlebotomy and other patient-related functions, along with undertaking other associated responsibilities as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibits proficiency in the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Self-Leadership, Leadership of Others, or Leadership of Leaders.
  • Conducts all standard and advanced laboratory tests in the designated section, considering age or gender-specific values.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and apparatus, executing minor repairs as necessary or alerting Biomedical Engineering when required.
  • Must be adaptable to cross-train in various laboratory sections as needed.
  • Ensures adherence to the laboratory's quality control protocols.
  • Calculates, inputs, and/or verifies laboratory test results.
  • Utilizes the Laboratory Information Management System effectively.
  • Communicates and documents critical laboratory findings promptly.
  • Handles patient specimens with care, including collection, processing, and distribution, while being mindful of minimal pediatric specimen volumes when applicable.
  • Engages in the assessment, development, and execution of new or revised testing methodologies and protocols.
  • Demonstrates the ability to fulfill assigned patient care duties in a manner that aligns with the specific and developmental needs of the patient population served by the department.
  • Adapts patient assessment, treatment, and care strategies to meet the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental requirements of each patient.
  • Exemplifies commitment to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.
  • Completes all mandatory compliance and regulatory obligations and adheres to all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience that meets the standards outlined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR, including U.S. Military laboratory training courses of at least 50 weeks.
OR
Education evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency and recognized as equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
One year of experience is required for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program accredited by NAACLS or other HHS-approved organizations.
OR
Two years of recognized clinical laboratory experience, which must include a clinical rotation through Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S. or with an accredited laboratory within the last five years.
OR
Five years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT II cannot transition to CLS II).
Must hold Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
If certification has an expiration date, it must be maintained and kept current.
New Graduates who are Board Certified or eligible (must achieve Board Certification within one year of hire, Louisiana excluded).
