Job Summary

The Manufacturing Tooling Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing production tooling design and fabrication plans. This role will coordinate with other departments, outside organizations, customers, and suppliers to ensure projects complete on time, at the expected quality level, and at the lowest cost.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the implementation of production tooling, including design, development, and fabrication.
  2. Assist in the coordination of the manufacturing launch of new or revised tooling.
  3. Support work specific to the Production Engineering Tooling Department.
  4. Prepare and maintain relevant documentation and work orders within SAP for the design and procurement of production tooling.
  5. Develop and maintain department metrics.
  6. Coordinate efforts with relevant Production Engineering team members to resolve any tooling-related issues in a timely manner.
  7. Participate in tooling design projects and may coordinate tasks or procedures with other Production Engineering team members.
  8. Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for tooling improvement, defects, and discrepancies, record and evaluate data, and report findings.
  9. Work with engineers and other personnel on continuous improvement projects as required.
  10. Lead overall projects, including budgets and outside suppliers and contractors.
  11. Provide technical support and assistance with the development and improvement of tooling.
  12. Present Tooling Design packages to the tooling fabrication team and assist in implementing any discrepancies before placement into service.
  13. Review Tooling designs and develop fabrication plans.
  14. Support Manufacturing Engineers during the Tooling first run process, document results.
  15. Create and/or modify Tooling procedural documents as necessary for improvement.
  16. Work with MEs to establish build plans around needed tooling for future projects.
  17. Promote and contribute to the overall team environment.
  18. Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace engineering, or other closely related technical field is preferred.
  2. In lieu of degree, minimum 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering-related experience, including mechanical and/or composite, systems assembly, and machining experience.
  3. Machining/Fabrication experience is a plus.
  4. Strong knowledge of industry standards, processes, and specifications related to aircraft.
  5. Strong communication skills.
  6. BASIC CATIA V5 experience is a plus.
  7. BASIC knowledge of design/drafting practices.
  8. BASIC to intermediate level GD&T proficiency in reading/understanding engineering drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Strong analytical skills and a critical thinker.
  2. Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D drawings for manufacturing designs and specifications.
  3. Teamcenter Manufacturing Product structure experience is a plus.
  4. Experience with managing projects and creating justifications is a plus.
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a diverse environment.
  6. Excellent communication and presentation skills, experience utilizing tools such as SAP, MS Office Suite.
  7. Ability to work independently and multitask with a strong work ethic.
  8. Time management and prioritization of assignments.
  9. Working knowledge of aircraft assembly, sequencing, and manufacturing flow.
Physical Requirements
  1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise, heat, cold, dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
  4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
  8. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company-provided 'reach assistance technology' or 'movement assist technology' (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly's, robotics reach equipment, people movers, etc.), as required by job duties.
