Position Overview:

IEM is seeking a Full-Time Construction Field Inspector to assist in the execution of the State's Broadband Program, which is supported by BEAD and various state and federal funding sources. We are looking for a meticulous and committed Field Inspector to aid in the deployment and oversight of projects under IEM's Broadband Program. The Construction Field Inspector will be essential in performing on-site evaluations, ensuring adherence to project specifications, and maintaining the quality and reliability of broadband infrastructure initiatives throughout the state.

Work Location:

  • Candidates must reside in one of the following states: IL, and be prepared to travel within their designated area/district.
  • This position offers a Hybrid work schedule, combining both Remote and In-Office responsibilities.
  • In-office attendance will be determined by business requirements and may vary from 1 to 5 days per week.
  • All remote work settings must support minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, with a ping rate of 100 ms or less during work hours. Additionally, candidates must have access to their Internet service provider account for potential troubleshooting during work hours.

Travel Expectations:

  • This role necessitates travel within the selected area/district, with a mileage reimbursement rate of $0.67 per mile.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough on-site evaluations of broadband infrastructure projects to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulatory standards.
  • Assess the quality of construction practices, materials, and equipment utilized in broadband deployment initiatives.
  • Document inspection outcomes, observations, and any compliance issues for reporting and corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and sub-recipients to resolve issues identified during inspections.
  • Monitor project timelines and advancements to ensure the timely execution of broadband projects within budgetary and scope constraints.
  • Communicate inspection findings and recommendations to program leadership, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies as necessary.
  • Maintain precise records and documentation of inspection activities for accountability and reporting purposes.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in broadband infrastructure development to improve inspection methodologies.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as project needs evolve.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Understanding of broadband technology, infrastructure, and policy matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; additional certifications or training in construction, engineering, or related fields are advantageous.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in construction inspection, quality assurance, or related fieldwork, preferably within telecommunications or infrastructure projects.
  • Valid driver's license and readiness to travel to project sites across the state.
  • Knowledge of construction practices pertinent to broadband infrastructure projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills for assessing construction quality and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to engage with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Capability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with construction inspection tools and equipment.
