Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a Peer Recovery Coach to provide non-clinical services to aid patients in establishing recovery from high-risk substance use problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support and motivation to encourage patients seeking treatment for substance dependency and addiction issues.
  • Assist patients and family members in understanding community services and linking to substance treatment services, including securing appointments and transportation.
  • Complete required documentation and reports, and conduct brief interventions with patients who screen positive for substance use.
  • Consult with nursing staff and social work as requested, and identify patient's history of substance use, treatment history, motivation to change behavior, and other needs for community support services.
  • Model coping techniques and self-help strategies, and provide family members with recovery support materials.
  • Provide telephone outreach to patients to assist with linkages and continued peer support.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Actively engaged in his/her own recovery program for at least three years, with personal recovery and sustained abstinence from substance use with no relapses.
  • Peer Recovery Specialist certification within 180 Days preferred.
