Position Summary:
In the role of Custodial Services and Transportation Specialist, you will be responsible for providing essential cleaning and driving services for the organization. This includes assisting with the receipt of supply shipments and maintaining outdoor areas. The Specialist will execute routine and general cleaning tasks, support the unloading of donations, and engage in seasonal driving activities, ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is fulfilled effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out daily cleaning tasks as assigned
- Dust and clean all surfaces, including windows, doors, desks, and shelves
- Maintain carpets through thorough vacuuming and spot cleaning
- Care for hard surfaces such as tile and concrete, including polishing and disinfecting
- Perform spot cleaning on walls and light switches as necessary
- Ensure cleanliness in kitchen areas, including counters and appliances
- Manage waste disposal and recycling, replacing liners as needed
- Report maintenance issues and coordinate repair bids
- Organize and maintain cleaning supplies
- Assist with minor building repairs
- Drive to collect food donations and assist with unloading
- Set up and dismantle for various activities
- Support holiday initiatives, including Kettles and Toy Shop
- Conduct outdoor maintenance, including groundskeeping and snow removal
- Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisory staff
Qualifications:
Education: A High School Diploma is required.
Background Checks: This position necessitates a background check, which may impact eligibility.
Experience: Previous janitorial experience is preferred, along with experience driving a pick-up truck/trailer combination.
Certifications: A valid driver's license is mandatory, and adherence to The Salvation Army's driving standards is required. Completion of Safe From Harm training is expected within the first 90 days of employment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in English for effective communication with colleagues and clients.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new reporting systems.
- Knowledge of cleaning products and safe chemical usage.
Supervisory Duties: Oversee volunteers and groups as necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting items up to 50 pounds.
- Good vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential.
Travel Requirements: Travel may be necessary; a valid driver's license is required.
Work Environment: The role involves working in various settings, including office and outdoor environments, with potential evening and weekend hours.
