Position Overview

Space-Track DevOps Engineer

SAIC is in search of a DevOps Engineer to contribute to a dynamic, high-achieving Agile team focused on maintaining situational awareness of space satellites and debris. This role is integral to supporting the Department of Defense's mission for spaceflight safety.

The selected candidate will engage with the Space Forces - Space (S4S), a component of US Space Command, primarily working in a hybrid capacity. The role emphasizes collaboration within a cloud-based framework, utilizing scrum methodologies to devise innovative and practical solutions aligned with Space Command's objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot web and cloud-native applications using PHP, JavaScript, and additional programming languages.
  • Utilize a comprehensive understanding of software architecture and development, focusing on web services (e.g., REST, API, AJAX) and data interchange formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Implement, deploy, and oversee various servers, databases, and cloud resources through Infrastructure as Code (IAC) principles.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess one or more of the following:

A minimum of five years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree.

  • Proven experience in developing, deploying, and managing production applications within a cloud environment.
  • Familiarity with all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Knowledge of software design and development utilizing contemporary technologies and architectures (e.g., Service-Oriented Architecture).
  • Experience in client-side web development with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and server-side development using interpreted languages such as PHP, Perl, or Python.
  • Proficient understanding of SQL and database management, including design, structure, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with IAC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, and similar technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems, networking, and associated protocols.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for learning, demonstrating a strong work ethic and ownership of tasks, along with the ability to effectively troubleshoot complex technical challenges.
  • Understanding of intricate access and security frameworks.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, technical team environment while developing innovative solutions.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Eligibility to obtain TS/SCI Clearance upon hiring.

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000, reflecting the typical compensation for this role based on experience and qualifications.
