Job Summary

The Surveillance Systems Specialist is responsible for maintaining the college's high-definition surveillance camera program, ensuring that cameras, network switches, and servers are operating properly. This role requires technical skills in the installation, repair, and maintenance of security cameras.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage equipment in the college's high-definition surveillance camera program.
  2. Identify the most effective location for surveillance camera installation.
  3. Allocate network switches, servers, and surveillance camera licenses as needed.
  4. Ensure that all surveillance camera equipment is updated and properly maintained.
  5. Establish a replacement program for surveillance camera equipment.
  6. Repair surveillance cameras that are defective.
  7. Install replacement or new surveillance cameras as needed.
  8. Maintain a database of camera locations along with licenses and serial numbers.
  9. Perform work according to manufacturer's specifications, departmental guidelines, industry standards, best practices, and in compliance with federal and state laws.
  10. Research and recommend equipment for upgrades or replacement.
  11. Assist in evaluation and implementation of campus-wide security needs.
  12. Assist with managing projects and contractors.
  13. Travel throughout the college district as needed.
  14. Serve as Campus Security Authority.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Associate's Degree required.
  2. At least one (1) year of experience in surveillance cameras/security, preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  3. Must possess situation awareness skills.
  4. Ability to demonstrate exemplary work practices and work ethic.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of constituents both orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to remain calm in difficult, dangerous, and high-stress emergency situations.
  7. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  8. Must be willing and able to work various hours, various locations, and rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, college closures, and holidays as needed.
  9. Ability to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation or College-owned vehicles.
  10. Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  11. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, college policies and procedures, governmental regulations.
  12. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  13. Ability to effectively present and respond to inquiries from groups of students, faculty, staff, administration, and the general public.
  14. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  15. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
