The Echo Laboratory utilizes ultrasound technology from various manufacturers. The Lead Cardiac Ultrasound Specialist (LCUS) is expected to achieve mastery in the operation of these systems and maintain that proficiency, especially with the introduction of new equipment. Echocardiograms are conducted independently in outpatient environments. The LCUS is also tasked with upholding a high standard of medical ethics and serves as a resource for physicians, nursing staff, patients, and their families. This role requires self-motivation to enhance knowledge and understanding of the field, including pathophysiology, and to stay updated on evolving procedures while adhering to established examination standards in line with institutional policies. Participation in laboratory accreditation activities is mandatory. Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) is required. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Echo Lab Supervisor and the Noninvasive Cardiology Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Echocardiography program.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technician, with a focus on echocardiography.

Our services encompass a wide range of specialties including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, General Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Pulmonary, Rheumatology, Sports Medicine, and Vascular care.
