Job Summary

UIC Technical Services is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team as a Medication Management Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and distributing medication to inmates at a correctional facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up, and deliver daily inmate medications
  • Observe and report any reactions and/or side effects to medication taken by the inmate
  • Document the administered medication on the patient's medication administration record (MAR)
  • Conduct lifesaving measures in emergency situations, including CPR, deploying the AED, and assessing and treating trauma
  • Provide nursing care requiring an understanding of diseases and illnesses sufficient to enhance communications with physicians, registered nurses, and patients
  • Follow established policies, practices, and procedures, using judgment to vary the sequence of procedures based on patient condition and previous instructions

Requirements

  • Possess a diploma as a graduate from a nationally accredited or state-approved vocational nursing program
  • Possess a current unrestricted registered nurse license and be able to obtain and maintain an unrestricted registered nurse license from either the State of Kansas or Missouri with six months of hire
  • Have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds on occasion
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically
