The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) plays a vital role in delivering thorough mental health evaluations and treatment, collaborating closely with the health center's Psychiatric team. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnose, and treat patients in partnership with Psychiatric professionals.
  • Offer follow-up care recommendations and ensure continuity of treatment with other healthcare providers.
  • Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record system.
  • Perform all medical procedures in accordance with established protocols and promptly report any issues.
  • Guide medical and behavioral treatment strategies for patients, collaborating with other healthcare staff.
  • Educate patients, families, and clinical personnel on psychiatric conditions and their management.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers and other health professionals as needed.
  • Participate in proficiency testing to uphold care standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Foster open communication with all healthcare team members regarding patient progress and health changes.
  • Interpret the center's services and policies to patients and their families.
  • Engage with the public and staff in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Attend and contribute to staff and provider meetings, participating in committees to enhance patient care quality.
  • May undertake additional duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Engage in ongoing medical education to maintain necessary skills and certifications.
  • Commit to the health center's mission and guiding principles, setting a positive example for colleagues.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and educational retreats.
  • Involve in quality assurance and risk management initiatives.
  • Work within a structured team environment, collaborating daily with Core Care Team members.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a PMHNP in Alabama with formal training in psychiatric mental health nursing.
  • Preferred experience of at least 2 years with adult and/or pediatric populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers to create effective treatment plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and families.
  • Proficient in obtaining health histories and performing physical examinations to inform diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Capable of independent clinical assessments.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and electronic health records.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.
