Key Responsibilities
  • Perform personal care and nursing procedures, applying elementary nursing principles, to ensure the comfort and well-being of patients.
  • Carry out or assist with diagnostic procedures, including identifying and recording subjective symptoms, observing and recording objective symptoms, and collecting specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Administer oral medications and intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, as directed by a registered nurse and/or physician.
  • Perform intravenous therapy, as directed by a registered nurse and/or physician.
  • Identify cessation of heartbeat or respiration, notify medical and nursing personnel, and initiate resuscitation efforts.
  • Maintain a suitable environment for patients, including changing linens, tidying the premises, and ensuring proper ventilation, heating, and lighting.
  • Administer, assist with, or teach good personal hygiene to provide comfort and cleanliness.
  • Obtain basic assessment data and brief history from patients, documenting information in accordance with prescribed clinical procedures.
  • Communicate with patients to assess emotional and mental well-being, and identify patients requiring special assistance.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
