Operating Room Technician

Position Summary: The Surgical Technologist, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), is responsible for preparing surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments for procedures conducted at Specialists Hospital Shreveport. This role involves assisting the surgical team within the sterile environment and ensuring the operating room is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and organization. This is a full-time position during day shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care Support: Collaborate with the RN to assess and address individual patient needs upon admission, ensuring a focus on physiological, psychosocial, safety, and emotional aspects.
- Medical Orders Implementation: Assist the RN in prioritizing and executing physician orders based on patient requirements and requests, ensuring adherence to departmental protocols.
- Surgical Preparation: Prepare the surgical environment by gathering necessary supplies and equipment, updating surgeon preference records, and maintaining the sterile field throughout the procedure.
- Instrument Handling: Manage surgical instruments with care, ensuring sterility and proper organization, while anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
- Post-Procedure Duties: Participate in the breakdown of the sterile field, proper disposal of contaminated materials, and cleaning of the operating room using appropriate disinfectants.
- Medication Management: Identify and prepare medications for surgical use, ensuring accurate documentation and disposal in accordance with established policies.
- Instrument Maintenance: Document and manage instruments requiring repair, ensuring all tools are cleaned, disinfected, and ready for future use.
- Professional Development: Maintain certification requirements, participate in ongoing training, and stay current with CPR certification.
