Ochsner Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, maintaining a safe and efficient environment for patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Assist surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly.
- Prepare and maintain the operating room, including setting up and cleaning equipment, and ensuring that all necessary supplies are stocked and readily available.
- Monitor and maintain the sterility of the operating room, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are properly sterilized and stored.
- Assist with the transportation of patients to and from the operating room, and provide support to patients and families during the surgical process.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure that all necessary documentation and records are accurate and up-to-date.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in surgical technology or a related field preferred.
- Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) required.
- 1-2 years of experience in a surgical setting, preferably in an operating room environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- 1-2 years of experience in a similar medical setting.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
The Surgical Technologist will work in a fast-paced operating room environment, with frequent exposure to blood and bodily fluids. The incumbent will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow strict infection control protocols to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff.
The physical demands of this role include standing for long periods, lifting and moving heavy equipment, and working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull heavy equipment as needed.
