About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Security Officer to join our team at the State of Mississippi. As a Security Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our residents, employees, and facility visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct facility rounds on all shifts to inspect unoccupied building(s) for unlocked doors or windows.
  • Check and document facility grounds and residential buildings.
  • Ask trespassers or unauthorized persons to leave.
  • Provide safety for facility residents, law-abiding employees, and guests in cases of disturbances.
  • Notify staffed buildings of weather watches or warnings.
  • Serve as the switchboard operator for the program and direct calls.
  • Fingerprint individuals and process badges.
  • Notify maintenance personnel of maintenance problems found or reported after regular maintenance hours.
  • Enter into a surety bond for handling monies from parents and guardians for resident monetary accounts and distributing staff payroll checks.
Requirements
  • Typically requires a High School diploma and 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a team player who can work independently with sound judgment.
  • Must be mature with the ability to use skills for de-escalation in times of crisis.
  • Must be able to use physical skills learned when a threat of danger or safety arises.
