The Systems and Operations Assurance Department (SOAD) serves as the hub of expertise in Operations and Facilities Engineering, Product and Process Assurance, Quality Assurance (QA), and Manufacturing Engineering for our corporate clientele. SOAD delivers a comprehensive suite of technical capabilities that assist our clients in ensuring the availability, readiness, and success of ground assets/services essential for meeting the demands of national security and commercial space sectors.

We are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer (Project Leader - Systems Engineer) to become a vital member of our high-performing team, addressing some of the most pressing Facilities and Infrastructure challenges while enhancing our capabilities to tackle the technical hurdles of the future. This role demands an innovative and decisive individual who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented setting, capable of establishing goals and effectively executing them. We welcome experienced candidates who can contribute within multi-disciplinary project teams, proficient in all stages of Facility-related project design and management throughout the Facility lifecycle, including requirements/concept design development, construction, and operations & maintenance/sustainment phases.

Work Model:

This position operates in a Hybrid model, requiring 4 days on-site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Self-motivate and manage project engineer and project administrator responsibilities related to each project with minimal oversight.
  • Utilize and/or develop advanced analytical methods to assess civil/structural systems and enhance overall systems performance.
  • Analyze third-party geotechnical reports and apply findings to validate and optimize intricate foundation and soil support systems.
  • Conduct detailed analysis, design, and evaluation of complex civil/structural facilities and their foundation systems independently.
  • Create and verify intricate civil/structural engineering deliverables, including calculations, specifications, material requisitions, cost estimates, and facility design criteria.
  • Provide independent, data-driven technical reports and recommendations to management and clients through effective verbal and written communication.
  • Review and offer Engineering Review Comments on technical documents from third-party designers, engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction contractors.
  • Employ a systematic and thorough approach to problem-solving and identifying root causes of facility system failures and issues encountered during construction.
  • Assist in constructability evaluations.
  • Support construction efforts by addressing field change requests and nonconformance reports, performing construction observations, reviewing construction submissions, and witnessing/evaluating field testing as necessary.
  • Engage in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, construction contractors, etc.
  • Mentor or coach early-career engineers and designers.
  • Travel to customer and/or government facilities while representing the company and department professionally.

Qualifications for Success as a Civil/Structural Engineer Project Leader - Systems Engineer

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 8 years of experience in civil/structural engineering design/construction for building, transportation, and infrastructure projects.
  • Current Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering deliverables, including construction documents and material requisitions, as well as construction methods for industrial infrastructure and their foundation systems.
  • Self-starter with strong time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within set timelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong written and oral communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with current commercial building codes and regulations (e.g., IBC, NFPA, AASHTO, ASTM, AISC, ACI, ASCE, etc.).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or similar computer-aided drafting software.
  • Experience with civil/structural analytical software (SAP2000, STAAS, RISA, PCASE, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, and Visio.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (Domestic/International).
  • Ability to obtain/maintain TS/SCI clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Master's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or an advanced degree in a related engineering field.
  • Proficiency in Mathcad, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Experience in Value Engineering, Constructability Reviews, Safety Reviews, and O&M Reviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in flexible and rigid paving design for heavy vehicle loadings (AASHTO).
  • Knowledge of U.S. defense industry facility acquisition and operational practices.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) documents.
  • Experience in geotechnical and structural design for Nuclear Quality and Safety environments.
  • Experience with the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of federal, military, and/or space launch base facilities and their associated infrastructures.
  • Experience in civil/structural design and construction of complex, large-scale underground facilities.
  • Field construction experience.
  • Experience in preparing structural/forensic engineering investigations, studies, and reports.
  • Current TS/SCI security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance.
