Position Title: Senior Accounting Specialist

Reports to: Finance Director

SUMMARY:

The Senior Accounting Specialist plays a crucial role in managing general ledger entries, conducting balance sheet reconciliations, generating financial reports, overseeing finance-related projects, and supporting the annual financial audits on both domestic and international fronts.

This position is tasked with executing various accounting responsibilities for Bible Study Fellowship, adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial management practices tailored for the non-profit sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries for multiple entities.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Generate monthly variance reports for Directors and Division Heads, comparing actual expenses against approved budgets.
  • Compile year-to-date revenue forecasts within ten days post month-end.
  • Assist in year-end closing processes and the preparation of annual work papers and documentation for financial audits.
  • Provide training and support to BSF personnel on the effective use of ERP software.
  • Review and analyze financial statements for accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead and execute financial project assignments as designated.
  • Support the Finance Director in the annual budgeting process.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Finance Director.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of GAAP and its application in problem-solving.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a CPA firm, corporate setting, or ministry.
  • Strong grasp of GAAP principles.
  • Experience with compensation, benefits accounting, and tax regulations.
  • Proficient in preparing financial statements.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

SPIRITUAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Comprehensive understanding of Christian faith and BSF's Statement of Faith.
  • Adhere to principles of conflict resolution in workplace interactions.
  • Engage in Bible study in preparation for group meetings.
  • Facilitate staff prayer sessions and Bible study groups as needed.
  • Participate in designated prayer events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standard office setting.
  • Extended periods of sitting may be required.
  • Potential for eyestrain from prolonged computer use.
  • Occasional travel for staff events may be necessary.
