Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer

Burns & McDonnell is a leading engineering and architecture firm with a strong presence in the US and globally. Our Mission Critical team has been ranked #2 by the ENR in 2023, and we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join our team.

We are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in structural engineering to lead our structural design project teams. As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across various sectors, including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead structural design project teams to create innovative and cost-effective solutions
  • Develop and implement structural design plans, adapting to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs
  • Prepare structural equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations
  • Review structural vendor drawings, interface with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines
  • Participate in project schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning
  • Manage change orders effectively
  • Apply expert knowledge of structural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures
  • Develop and present technical reports for clients and industry publications
  • Build effective relationships with clients, customers, and contractors
  • Lead sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program
  • 7 years of structural engineering experience, with EPC project experience preferred
  • Expert knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE7)
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
