Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a Registered Nurse II, you will be responsible for providing complex bedside nursing care to patients, working under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care.
  • Utilize the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, and document care and teaching of patients and family.
  • Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medications, and assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in consultation with healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborate with patients to support and encourage their participation in rehabilitative exercises, and aid patients in mobility and positioning, providing assistance during ambulation and transfers.
  • Assist medical providers during patient examinations and procedures, and work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the quality of patient care.
  • Perform duties of Patient Care Coordinator (charge nurse) in their absence, and may serve as Nurse Supervisor.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and Texas Center for Infectious Disease (TCID) policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles of adult learning, current treatment for tuberculosis, and Joint Commission, CMS, and state and federal regulations pertaining to health care and accreditation standards.
  • Ability to provide meaningful participation in Performance Improvement activities, and develop and maintain competency records for clinical knowledge and skills for TCID clinical staff.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and positively with patients and staff, and read, write, and speak English.
Working Conditions:

The Registered Nurse II will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to human blood, body fluids, tissue, or wastes, biomedical waste, and biological agents. The ability to lift approximately lbs with or without assistance is required.
