About the Role

As an Asset Management Specialist, you will play a critical role in the management of Fairfax County's wastewater collection system, consisting of nearly 3,400 miles of pipe, over 100,000 associated structures, 57 metering sites, and 63 pumping stations.

Under the general supervision of the asset manager, you will provide wastewater collection project and maintenance support, perform project management and contract negotiation/administration for inspection, maintenance, and repair of critical and complex wastewater collection infrastructure, including gravity sewers, manholes, pumping stations, etc.

You will also manage projects to collect sewer asset condition data, maintain asset inventory, and other related wastewater facilities information.

Additionally, you will lead asset risk assessment and modeling to help create programs/projects for planning and maintenance functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides wastewater collection project and maintenance support
  • Performs project management and contract negotiation/administration
  • Manages projects to collect sewer asset condition data and maintain asset inventory
  • Leads asset risk assessment and modeling
  • Manages regulatory compliance reviews, assessment, and reporting
  • Obtains necessary permits required to perform section's functions
  • Prepares and coordinates project budgets and schedules
  • Coordinates projects activities with various groups
  • Prepares and conducts meetings, presentations to stakeholders

Requirements

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental or Life Sciences, Construction Management, Business Administration, Facilities Management, or related; plus five years of experience in the management of large and complex construction or maintenance projects to include two years managing multi-disciplinary teams with multiple contractors.

A valid driver's license is required.

NASSCO MACP, NASSCO PACP, NASSCO ITCP within 1 (one) year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) years of relevant experience in wastewater infrastructure

Extensive experience performing in Renewal/rehabilitation of wastewater assets and ability to manage QA/QC data from project activities.

Intermediate experience using GIS, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), Condition Assessment, and Asset Modeling Programs.

Three (3) years of experience in contract management of complex wastewater infrastructure projects.

Physical Requirements

Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer.

Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Visual acuity to review detailed drawings, plans, and documents.

Work is generally sedentary; however, employee needs to be able to perform field work, including driving to sites and navigating terrain.
