About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Surgical Care Technician to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist RNs with daily patient care, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Measure and document patient data, including blood pressures, temperatures, and intake/output.
  • Document accurately in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes under the supervision of RNs.
  • Ensure patient call lights are always within reach and respond promptly to patient requests.
  • Perform purposeful rounding and communicate observations, concerns, and needs to RNs.
  • Assist with patient positioning and transporting duties, including lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices.
  • Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and perform point-of-care testing as indicated.
  • Maintain competency and adhere to policies and procedures related to infection prevention.
  • Coordinate tests and treatments with and between various departments for patients on nursing units.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days.
  • Nurse Aide certification in good standing with the State Registry.
  • Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
