Core Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight:
- Manage the financial health of designated departments, establishing annual budgets and promoting efficient use of resources while identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Clinical Operations Management:
- Oversee the orientation and skill development of new nursing staff, ensuring appropriate assignments based on patient needs and staff qualifications.
- Evaluate staffing standards and recommend adjustments based on patient care requirements.
- Develop and enforce departmental policies and procedures, collaborating with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives to uphold high standards of patient care and identify areas for enhancement.
- Leadership and Staff Development:

- Maintain updated job descriptions and performance standards, providing feedback and recommendations for staff recognition based on performance.
- Facilitate effective communication regarding administrative and personnel matters with the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Plan and approve staffing schedules in accordance with organizational policies.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively among team members.
- Coordinate nursing activities across various departments.
- Establish departmental goals and oversee resource management.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Implement and monitor adherence to regulatory standards within the assigned departments, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines.
- Leadership Support:
- Act as the Acting Chief Nursing Officer when necessary, coordinating nursing activities and reporting to hospital administration.
- Participate actively in nursing leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
- Address employee concerns in alignment with human resources policies.
- Clinical Resource Management:
- Fulfill nursing duties as required, adapting to the evolving needs of the department.
- Utilize professional judgment to address patient care situations effectively.
- Professional Standards:
- Exhibit professionalism in all interactions, maintaining composure in high-pressure situations and addressing performance issues promptly.
- Provide constructive feedback to staff and recognize exceptional performance.
Education and Licensure:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Bachelor's or master's degree preferred.
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state.
- BLS certification required; ACLS certification to be obtained within six months of hire.
- PALS and NRP certifications preferred.
- Minimum of five years of professional nursing experience.
- At least two years of experience as a staff RN in relevant specialties.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Understanding of nursing principles and practices.
- Proficiency in computer systems and electronic health records.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and critical thinking abilities.
