About the Role:

The Senior Asphalt Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of medium-to-heavy construction equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets. This includes performing general supervision at assigned work sites, providing training and orientation to subordinate workers, and ensuring the proper placement of traffic control signs and barricades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain a range of construction equipment, including rollers, ten-wheelers, lift trucks, and graders.
  • Supervise subordinate workers and provide training and orientation on asphalt applications and equipment use.
  • Inspect and evaluate repair sites, making decisions on potential departures from the projected repair plan.
  • Notify area residents and businesses of upcoming construction schedules and provide information on traffic re-routing and vehicle relocation.
  • Coordinate with police to remove and relocate vehicles obstructing the work site.
  • Perform routine paperwork, including Work Orders, Action Orders, and Utilization Reports.
  • Perform snow removal duties for assigned districts in accordance with the City's Snow Removal Program.

Requirements:

  • Three years' paid work experience, including two years operating equipment and one year performing lead or supervisory duties.
  • Extensive knowledge of asphalt maintenance construction procedures and materials.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work and relate well with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate-to-heavy physical activity, including pushing, pulling, or lifting medium-heavy weights.
  • Difficult working positions, including standing, walking, or sitting uncomfortably for extended periods.
  • Constant exposure to disagreeable elements, including extreme heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dust, airborne particles, and grease.
