Job Summary:The Residential Maintenance Worker will be responsible for providing cleaning, maintenance, security, and monitoring of program participants. This role will assist participants in adapting to community living and program policies, ensuring effective operation of the shelter program.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and participate in daily and deep clean chores to ensure the facility is maintained in optimum condition.
- Ensure setup and clean-up of dining areas and kitchen during and after meals, following all food safety guidelines.
- Conduct scheduled room checks for adherence to safety/cleanliness standards, monitor and report any safety concerns.
- Check functionality of shelter appliances and systems, and ensure machines, tools, and other products used in the shelter are secured and accounted for.
- Turn-over rooms for perspective participants within a 24-hour period, including deep-cleaning, replacing broken or non-functioning items, and beddings, and painting if necessary.
- Receive, sort, and put away in-kind donations as needed.
- High School graduate or GED, Associate Diploma
- Knowledge of basic janitorial skills
- Demonstrate strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to follow detailed instructions
- Ability to interface smoothly with other staff, and departments, in addition to maintaining a professional demeanor at all times
- Experience working with a diverse population, with sensitivity to differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, race, age, and physical and mental abilities
- 2 years' experience working with homeless population, in a residential or related living facility and related culture
- Knowledge of residential site security issues and ability to enforce all guidelines related to safety
- Ability to be a positive team player, with attention to detail
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances, and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client's use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care.
The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. The employee is required to walk and climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, sit upright for extended periods of time, handle, finger, grasp, and feel objects and equipment, reach with hands and arms, lift with hands and arms, communicate, receive, and exchange ideas, information by means of the spoken and written word, be mobile by moving oneself from place to place quickly and easily, repeat various motions with the wrists, hands, and fingers, be able to have visual activity for administrative and clerical tasks, drive a personal vehicle in and around Los Angeles County, and periodically transport clients. The employee may be subjected to outside environmental conditions.
