Role Summary
The role of the Pharmaceutical Chemist involves working within a cGMP-compliant environment to manufacture active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and execute associated tasks at Bachem.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain manufacturing and in-process testing equipment, including but not limited to analytical HPLC/UPLC, preparative HPLC systems, lyophilizers, balances, reactors, and purification systems.
- Conduct solid phase and liquid phase synthesis, including deprotection and cleavage of APIs from resin using various chemical agents.
- Implement purification processes utilizing chromatography, crystallization, and other methodologies.
- Adhere to approved GMP manufacturing protocols, including Master Batch Records and Standard Operating Procedures, to produce GMP-compliant materials.
- Engage in project planning and initiate raw material requisitions, coordinating with QA/QC and Material Management for material release.
- Maintain and uphold the GMP Documentation System, investigate deviations, and assist in quality control measures.
- Organize and maintain cleanliness in work areas and equipment used in GMP processes.
- Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and related GMP documentation.
- Monitor compliance with maintenance and cleaning protocols for equipment and instruments.
- Take ownership of the housekeeping of production equipment and areas.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent experience in industrial equipment.
- 0-2 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree.
- Familiarity with laboratory instruments (e.g., HPLC, UV Spectrometry) is preferred.
- Experience in GMP manufacturing and a foundational understanding of cGMP and FDA regulations is advantageous.
- Knowledge of peptide and oligonucleotide manufacturing is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Detail-oriented with the capability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
- Basic proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
