Clinical Supervisor/Nurse Educator Job Description

Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Supervisor/Nurse Educator to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA. As a Clinical Supervisor/Nurse Educator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality home health services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Nursing with the coordination and management of home health clinical services.
  • Plan, provide, and supervise training in a classroom setting, educating students on standard best practices and laws surrounding specialized hands-on nursing skills.
  • Act as a liaison with the medical community, clients, and branch personnel, representing the Director of Nursing and Director of Education as needed.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily supervision of nurses and home health aides to ensure quality of service is within the required plan of care.
  • Initiate and review clinical content, diagnoses, medical history, medications, and other statuses from client records.
  • Appraise staff performance during the probationary period and annually with the Director of Nursing, providing teaching and counseling to enhance delivery of services and professional development of nursing and home health aide staff.
  • Identify and evaluate client needs and appropriateness of home care by reviewing the initial intake screening form before assignment of direct care staff.
  • Assist with the orientation of new professional staff to familiarize them with policies and procedures.
  • Conduct client visits in the appropriate setting as needed.
  • Initiate in-home supervisory visits of clinical staff as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical records, personnel records, etc., within the scope of their position.
  • Participate in any required functions in the absence of, or request by, the Director of Nursing.
  • Work closely with the electronic medical record (EMR) to ensure client electronic charts are maintained, updated, and remain in compliance with company standards.
  • Understand details around the knowledge of clinical workflow as it pertains to the use of EMR.
  • Participate in formal and informal problem-solving processes to meet the EMR computer education needs and established outcomes for users.
  • Provide trainer sessions for peers and field staff to expand training team expertise.
  • Provide coaching support to new staff to ensure compliance and consistency as it relates to the EMR.
  • Prepare and submit a course of study including program objectives, student performance objectives, and lesson plans for training in accordance with all regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct EMR chart audits.
Job Conditions:
  • Position may be stressful in terms of meeting deadlines.
  • May be required to bend, stoop, reach, and move clients as well as lift and carry more than 50 pounds.
  • Handles on call, as needed.
  • Travel is required.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a registered nurse (RN) licensed in the state and have worked as an RN for at least three years.
  • A minimum of one year of home health care or equivalent experience is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in trach, vent, g-tube, and pediatric care.
  • Ability to demonstrate self-confidence and positive attitude toward self and others, and maintain commitment and enthusiasm to achieve goals.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses.
  • Customer-service oriented.
  • Working knowledge of, or proficient in, Microsoft office applications, electronic medical records, and quick-to-learn proprietary software package.
  • The ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
