Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Multimedia Classroom Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our instructional technology team, you will be responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for audiovisual (AV) equipment in classrooms, lecture halls, and other instructional spaces across the university campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot AV equipment such as projectors, sound systems, microphones, cameras, and control systems in university classrooms and lecture halls.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of AV equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students in using AV technology for instructional purposes.
  • Commission new installations ensuring they are installed to meet our standards.
  • Survey classroom spaces documenting needs for future system upgrades.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and advancements in AV technology, recommending upgrades and enhancements to support teaching and learning goals.
  • Adhere to university policies, procedures, and safety guidelines related to AV technology deployment and usage.
Requirements:
  • Strong customer service background.
  • Proven experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting AV equipment in an educational or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of AV standards, protocols, and best practices, including HDMI, HDbaseT, audio mixing, and video streaming.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to lift and transport AV equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to handle small components and connectors during installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Comfortable working at heights, using ladders to access ceiling-mounted AV devices.
  • Avixa CTS Certification (If not a current CTS holder, it will be required within 6 months of hire).
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with training users of multimedia AV classroom systems.
  • Knowledge of AV over IP system operability.
  • Experience installing AV systems in a professional environment held to AV industry standards.
  • Proficiency with audiovisual software(e.g., Crestron, Biamp, Shure, QSC,etc), and operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS).
  • Experience with AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron) and video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
  • Experience with reporting, asset management, documentation, and data collection/management
