The Lactation Nurse Specialist is tasked with delivering safe, family-oriented patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation capabilities and care strategies for mothers, infants, and their family partners in care.
Hourly Range:
$35. Day shift 7am-7:30pm
3 worked holidays and 3 non-worked holidays
~ Evaluate patients' lactation requirements by gathering medical histories of the mother-infant pair.
~ Educate and support breastfeeding mothers and families to promote a successful breastfeeding journey.
~ Assess patient responses to care and initiate independent or collaborative adjustments as necessary.
~ Conduct and document initial and ongoing breastfeeding evaluations.
~ Provide training to maternal-child staff to enhance and update knowledge regarding lactation processes and techniques in formal settings (NICU and OB core, orienting all new nurses in NICU, L&D, and Postpartum).
~ Consult and facilitate breastfeeding support for antepartum, postpartum, and NICU patients/families in partnership with nursing and provider staff.
~ Collaborate with Speech Language Therapists, Occupational and Physical Therapists, Dieticians, and other relevant stakeholders.
~ Promote community education on prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding and childbirth education classes.
~ Ensure effective family-centered breastfeeding success through ongoing collaboration with pediatricians, neonatologists, obstetricians, and nursing staff.
~ Provide lactation consultations upon request for any breastfeeding mother admitted to the facility.
~ Assist employees returning to work with breastfeeding care plans.
~ Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to the care provided.
~ Apply sound nursing judgment in managing patient care decisions.
~ Collaborate with the nursing team to develop a comprehensive Plan of Care for all patients.
~ Direct and guide ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
