Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Neurologist and Supervisor, the Neurodiagnostic Specialist conducts neurophysiological assessments at a technical level, demonstrating proficiency in identifying both normal and abnormal electrical activity. Responsibilities include meticulous test preparation, electrode placement, and ensuring patient safety during significant clinical events. This role encompasses a variety of technical procedures that necessitate independent judgment, creativity, and initiative in applying neurophysiology techniques for neurological evaluation. The specialist is accountable for specific procedural areas and caters to a diverse patient demographic, from newborns to the elderly.

Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or other certifications: Current and Maintain BCLS; EEG Certification is required at the time of hire or within two (2) years of employment.
  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of supervised training/clinical experience in a laboratory environment is essential. Experience with various modalities is preferred: EEG Electroencephalography, EP – Evoked Potentials, IOM – Intraoperative Monitoring, LTM – Long Term Monitoring, and NCS – Nerve Conduction Studies.

  • Preferred Educational Requirements: Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program, or an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.

  • Proficient in executing quality neurodiagnostic procedures
  • Capable of working autonomously and collaboratively with team members
  • Basic knowledge of PC and Microsoft Windows
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • The specialist is knowledgeable about the protocols for completing technical reports, billing procedures, and patient file management.
  • Operates neurodiagnostic machinery according to specifications and produces high-quality studies. Adheres to infection control and safety protocols. Maintains a clean and organized work environment. Responsible for the electroneurodiagnostic unit during studies, identifies and performs basic/intermediate technical troubleshooting, including artifact identification and elimination, and understands how to repair faulty electrodes. Follows established safety practices; e.g., infection control standards, lead placement, patient observation/documentation, and equipment cleaning. Consistently produces quality studies within established protocols. Maintains patient records in accordance with departmental procedures. Accurately assesses patients based on the exams ordered, ensuring appropriate documentation (i.e., verifying orders, reviewing patient history and diagnosis, preparing patients). Provides relevant patient education regarding the exam being conducted and documents this in the patient record. Meets productivity standards as defined by the department.
  • Performs non-technical duties as assigned (e.g., stocking rooms, transporting patients, ordering supplies). Attends departmental meetings and participates in assigned training and educational courses. Stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures. Involved in the training of new staff. Undertakes special projects and any other related duties as assigned.
