About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in supporting the Main Operating Room and Dermatology Clinics.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a full range of surgical/operating room technician services, including performance as a scrub technician, passing instruments to the surgeon and/or surgical assistants, and assisting the circulating nurse in preparing patients for surgery.
  • Count sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery and assist in clean-up of the operating room.
  • Prepare operative specimens, label, and deliver them to the laboratory, and move equipment to and from operating rooms as necessary for scheduled procedures.
  • Provide pick-up and delivery service for items such as blood gasses, supplies, specimens, and materials to support Operating Room needs.
  • Conduct inventory, determine need, order, obtain, receive, and store surgical supplies, and inspect and monitor stocking of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) crash cart.
Requirements
  • Graduate from a Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
  • Minimum of 1 year of full-time experience as a Surgical Technologist within the preceding 2 years, including experience assisting Main Operating Room surgeons.
