DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

The Virginia Community Organizing Department is committed to identifying, training, and mobilizing community members to achieve sustainable improvements in their neighborhoods, employment, and overall quality of life through collective action and voter education initiatives.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The selected candidate will facilitate expansion initiatives within the designated region and contribute to ongoing social justice efforts encompassing immigrant rights, community enhancement, housing, educational equity, labor, and workers' rights campaigns, among others. The individual will also assist in electoral and civic engagement activities, foster member and ally relationships through both digital and face-to-face communication, and may represent CASA in coalitions, to funders, and in media interactions. A successful Community Engagement Lead will cultivate a team of organizers dedicated to recruiting and developing CASA members into influential progressive leaders capable of driving campaigns at local, state, and national levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and monitor outreach and leadership development initiatives for CASA members, including leadership training sessions.
  • Recruit and onboard new and renewing members for the organization.
  • Identify local campaign priorities and take a leading role in conducting power analysis, formulating campaign strategies, and ensuring ample opportunities for member leadership development throughout the campaign.
  • Support the development and execution of campaign strategies for state and national initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry, management, and reporting.
  • Act as a campaign field manager for electoral initiatives as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Organizing to create an annual departmental work plan and vision.
  • Advance CASA's strategic objectives and play a pivotal role within the management team.
  • As part of CASA's management team, develop annual plans with measurable outcomes, track progress regarding plan completion, and assist in providing reports on activities to leadership, the board, and funders.
  • Serve as an organizational spokesperson in interactions with the media, funders, and government entities.
  • Engage broad community support and key ally relationships.
  • Provide high-quality supervision, including performance evaluations, individual work plan development, and oversight; as well as the development, evaluation, and modification of targeted campaigns and skill development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid US Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual capabilities are preferred.
