Maintenance Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids NPHC. As a key member of our property management team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing physical structures of apartment buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform work orders in a safe and timely manner, prioritizing emergency, on-call, make-ready, preventative, inspection, routine, or resident request repairs.
  • Inspect property for improvements and repairs, reporting unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Maintain control of inventory and utilization of maintenance materials and supplies, operating and performing scheduled maintenance on all equipment.
  • Keep work areas and tools clean and organized at all times.
  • Assist in keeping property free of debris and rubbish.
  • Know the location and access to electric, gas, water, and all property shut-offs, meters, fire systems, and sewer clean outs.
  • Shovel snow, remove ice, and apply ice melt to walks and driveways as conditions exist.
  • Assist Property Management or other staff and contractors when requested.
  • Responsible for the security of the property at all times, keeping all keys in possession and refusing to give unauthorized access.
Grounds Maintenance Responsibilities:
  • Landscaping tasks, such as planting and cutting lawns, trimming and edging around walks, planting and caring for flower beds, pruning bushes, trees, or shrubs, cleaning grounds, raking and bagging leaves, and removing litter.
  • Minor repairs and upkeep tasks, such as repairing fences, gates, walls, and walks, painting fences, stairs/stairwells, and outbuildings, maintaining and repairing grounds equipment.
  • Operating snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks, applying ice melt to public passageways as needed.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or General education degree (GED) and two or more years related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and ability to write simple correspondence.
