Position Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers by conducting a variety of tests on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids. The outcomes of these tests are essential for diagnosing and managing patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts routine, moderate, and complex laboratory diagnostic evaluations.
- Validates test outcomes and supplies physicians with critical data to ascertain the presence, severity, cause, and treatment options for diseases.
- Adheres to quality assurance protocols to ensure the precision and dependability of test results.
- Executes, documents, and assesses Quality Control measures.
- Oversees, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory apparatus and tools.
- Facilitates the training of new staff and students on laboratory equipment and testing methodologies.
- Utilizes computer systems for both Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
- Engages in ongoing professional development in relevant fields of expertise.
- Assists in managing inventory levels.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- An Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
- A minimum of 60 semester hours (including six hours of chemistry and six hours of biology) from an accredited college or university, along with completion of a medical lab technician program recognized by a national accreditation body
- Completion of a 50-week military medical laboratory training course within the last ten years
- MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligibility from a nationally acknowledged certification organization (preferably ASCP) (required)
