The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Family Services Specialist I to join our team. Key Responsibilities- Interpret and apply laws, policies, and regulations related to social services.
- Monitor, coordinate, and administer specific programs as assigned.
- Coordinate services within the social services area of responsibility.
- Interview and assess customer needs and other relevant factors.
- Inform clients of related service programs, rules, and regulations.
- Present cases to determine appropriate services and write/implement service plans.
- Provide case management services to monitor compliance.
- Manage program waiting lists.
- Track expenditures and prepare/submit budget estimates.
- Ensure payment for services.
- Complete necessary federal, state, and local planning and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with other agencies and participate in multi-disciplinary and interagency teams.
- Conduct overall monitoring of programs in the social services area of responsibility.
- Serve as a resource to clients and the community in the area of expertise.
- Provide after-hours on-call coverage and respond to emergencies in child/adult protective services and/or foster care.
- Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in a Human Services area.
- Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable.
- Current or prior experience as a Family Services Specialist is preferred.
Applicants may be subject to a Criminal History Background search, Central Registry search, DMV driving record check, and/or pre-employment drug screen. The investigation may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, and references, verification of education, credit checks, and other checks requested by the hiring authority.
All offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory results of the required checks and screenings.
The employee must be willing to work in a community emergency shelter in the event of a disaster or emergency.
