Position Overview

Lutheran Services in Iowa is seeking Independent Living Mentors for our innovative Host Home program in the Northwest Iowa area. By welcoming an adult with disabilities into your home, you can profoundly influence their life and promote their independence.

The Independent Living Mentors will offer essential support, guidance, and care to the individual residing with them. This role involves collaborating with the mentee on various personal development goals, which may include skills such as shopping, budgeting, cooking, personal hygiene, and community integration. As a mentor, you will advocate for and empower them to achieve their fullest potential.

This unique partnership allows you to build a significant relationship with the individual you are hosting, inviting them to become an integral part of your household.

This is a contracted role. Lutheran Services in Iowa will assist in matching mentors with mentees and provide ongoing support, guidance, and training resources. Prior to placement, there are training requirements and a home safety evaluation that must be completed.

The average compensation for Independent Living Mentors is approximately $70,000 annually.

We are actively seeking Independent Living Mentors in the Northwest Region, which includes a broad area across 33 counties in northwest Iowa.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be a resident of Iowa
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
  • Must meet minimum insurance criteria
  • Must have access to a computer and internet for documentation purposes
  • Must have a private bedroom available for the individual sharing your home
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive screening process, including background checks for all household members over 18, a three-part interview, and a home safety inspection
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and creativity
  • Must have a genuine passion for making a positive impact in the community
